Overview
Join the Street Scene team within the Regeneration & Economic Growth Directorate and play a key role in maintaining and enhancing public spaces across the district. This position is ideal for individuals with a passion for horticulture and community well-being, contributing to cleaner, safer, and greener neighbourhoods.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out a wide range of horticultural and grounds maintenance duties under the direction of senior staff, ensuring high standards of service delivery.
Operate machinery and equipment including ride-on and pedestrian mowers, tractors, strimmers, hedge cutters, and back-pack blowers.
Undertake planting, bed preparation, shrub maintenance, and pitch marking.
Follow scheduled work routes, adapting to seasonal requirements and resident needs.
Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring safe use and proper upkeep.
Apply hand-held pest control treatments (subject to relevant training and certification).
Work independently with minimal supervision and provide guidance to Assistant Gardeners.
Respond to emergency situations and support other services where required, including:
Fencing repairs
Winter gritting
Street cleansing
Qualifications & Requirements
NVQ Level 1 or City & Guilds Level 1 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
PA1, PA2 and PA6 Pesticide Application Certificates.
Full UK Driving Licence (Category C1+E) with no more than 6 penalty points.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in grounds maintenance.
Understanding of Health and Safety at Work regulations.
Knowledge of general horticultural practices.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Good communication skills.
Physically fit to undertake outdoor work in all weather conditions.
