About the role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Building & Facilities Manager to join a leading arts organisation in Central London. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in ensuring a vibrant, safe and efficient environment within a thriving dance hub.
Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, you will take ownership of the day-to-day management of a 30,000 Sq Ft premises, covering the facilities and IT systems, as well as overseeing reception, security and front-of-house services.
Role Responsibilities
Facilities & Operations
Oversee the maintenance, repair and servicing of the building, equipment and systems
Manage contractor and supplier relationships, ensuring high standards and value for money
Manage a team of 3 Duty Managers, a reception team and external contractors
Take responsibility for the Building Management System (BMS) and general site operations
Carry out minor repairs and ensure the site is always well-presented and fully operational
Health & Safety
Lead on all Health & Safety compliance, ensuring the organisation meets regulatory standards
Manage risk assessments and implement effective mitigation measures
Oversee fire safety procedures, including drills, alarm testing and Fire Marshal provision
Maintain first aid standards and incident reporting processes
IT Systems
Act as the key liaison with external IT providers
Ensure IT systems, software and hardware are maintained and fit for purpose
Support ongoing IT development projects and database management
Ensure compliance with data protection (GDPR) requirements
Reception, Security & Cleaning
Manage reception and duty staff to ensure a professional front-of-house service
Maintain robust security systems and procedures
Oversee cleaning contracts, waste management and sustainability practices
Staff & Event Support
Support internal teams with event set-ups and operational requirements
Deliver and coordinate relevant training (e.g. health & safety, IT, fire safety)
Promote a collaborative and supportive working environment
About you
Essential
Proven experience (ideally 5+ years) in a facilities or building management role
Strong knowledge of Health & Safety compliance and best practice
Excellent organisational, problem-solving and time management skills
Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
Practical, hands-on approach with attention to detail
Good IT and administrative skills
Experience managing contractors, suppliers and budgets
Desirable
Experience in an education, arts or similar environment
Knowledge of access control systems (e.g. Paxton)
Interest or experience in sustainability and environmental initiatives
Commercial awareness and ability to drive value for money
IOSH or NEBOSH Qualification
