About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Facilities and Estates Operative with a strong background in painting and decorating to join our site team. This is a hands-on role responsible for supporting the smooth day-to-day running of a busy educational site, ensuring a safe, secure, and well-maintained environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.
You will play a key role in both planned and reactive maintenance, with a primary focus on delivering high-quality painting and decorating work across the site.
Key Responsibilities
Site Operations & Security
Open and close the site and act as a designated key holder
Respond to out-of-hours call-outs where required (including occasional weekends)
Operate site security systems and alarms
Painting & Decorating
Carry out interior and exterior painting and decorating to a high standard
Prepare surfaces including sanding, filling, and repairs
Work from specifications to deliver quality finishes in classrooms, corridors, and offices
Maintenance & Repairs
Undertake general maintenance tasks across the site
Support both proactive and reactive repairs
Monitor and report defects relating to plumbing, electrics, and building fabric
Assist with basic repairs and oversee contractors where needed
Grounds & External Areas
Maintain outdoor areas including clearing gutters, drains, and pathways
Support seasonal duties such as snow and ice clearance
Assist with upkeep of sports areas, including grass cutting and pitch marking
Facilities & Systems
Assist in monitoring heating, lighting, and water systems
Carry out basic compliance checks (e.g., fire alarms, emergency lighting)
Support energy efficiency initiatives
Events & Logistics
Set up rooms and halls for school events
Support general site arrangements for activities and functions
Health & Safety
Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, and COSHH requirements
Identify and report hazards promptly
Attend mandatory training, including first aid
Additional Duties
Drive site vehicles as required
Support operational needs across the wider site, including sports facilities
About You
Proven experience in painting and decorating
Practical knowledge across a range of maintenance trades
Confident using hand and power tools safely
Able to work independently and use initiative to solve problems
Flexible and reliable, with a strong work ethic
Good understanding of health and safety practices
Full UK driving licence preferred
