Data Protection Officer - Permeant Opportunity

We’re working with a well-established global organisation seeking a Data Protection Officer to support the delivery and continuous improvement of its privacy, AI governance, and information management framework.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative legal and governance function where you’ll play a key role in operational compliance, risk management, and embedding best practice across the business.
The Opportunity
Reporting into senior leadership within the data protection function, you will be responsible for supporting day-to-day privacy and information governance activities, ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirements and internal standards.
You’ll work closely with stakeholders across legal, technology, HR, and business teams, acting as a trusted adviser on data protection, AI risk, and information governance matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of privacy and information governance activities, ensuring compliance with relevant regulation and internal frameworks
- Manage data breaches and information governance incidents, supporting investigation, documentation, and regulatory reporting where required
- Provide hands-on support with DPIAs and privacy risk assessments, embedding privacy-by-design principles into projects and processes
- Support governance processes relating to AI and emerging technologies, including reviewing higher-risk use cases
- Act as a key point of contact for privacy queries, triaging issues and escalating where appropriate
- Lead the end-to-end management of data subject rights requests (e.g. access, erasure, rectification)
- Maintain key compliance documentation such as ROPA, risk registers, and privacy notices
- Support internal training and awareness initiatives, promoting a strong culture of data protection and responsible data use
- Produce regular reporting and MI to support governance forums and senior stakeholders
- Contribute to ongoing process improvements and compliance enhancements across privacy, AI, and information governance
About You
You’ll be a confident and proactive privacy professional with experience operating in a complex organisational environment.
Key experience and skills include:
- Strong working knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and broader privacy frameworks
- Familiarity with PECR, FOI, and international data protection considerations
- Experience managing DPIAs, incidents, and data subject rights requests
- Ability to analyse risk and provide clear, practical guidance to stakeholders
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across different business areas
- Experience working in a matrix or international environment (desirable)
- Comfortable handling sensitive, confidential information with accuracy and attention to detail
