💰 Salary: £38,627 - £44,704 per annum (Dependant on skills and experience)
🕐 Contract: Full-time, permanent (37 hours per week, all year round)
About the Role
We are seeking an inspiring and experienced Assistant Head of Department – Business to join a high-performing Further Education provider in Cambridgeshire.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate educator and leader to support the strategic and operational delivery of a dynamic Business curriculum area. You will play a key role in ensuring students receive an outstanding learning experience, achieve excellent outcomes, and progress successfully into employment or further study.
Working closely with the Head of Department, you will help drive continuous improvement, develop innovative curriculum provision, and lead a team of staff to deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Support the development and delivery of a high-quality, future-focused curriculum aligned to local skills needs
Drive improvements in student recruitment, retention, achievement and progression
Contribute to self-assessment (SAR) and quality improvement planning (QIP)
Build strong relationships with employers, awarding bodies, and external partners
Support preparation for Ofsted inspections and audits
Operational Delivery
Lead and coordinate programmes of study, ensuring all learners achieve strong outcomes
Monitor performance against KPIs (attendance, retention, achievement, value-added)
Support staffing, timetabling, and resource planning
Line manage and develop teaching staff, promoting high performance and continuous improvement
Ensure timely reporting and effective communication with stakeholders
Quality & Teaching Excellence
Champion high standards in teaching, learning and assessment across the faculty
Lead internal verification and quality assurance processes
Ensure compliance with awarding body requirements and curriculum standards
Deliver teaching within your subject area as required
About You
We’re looking for a motivated, driven and collaborative leader with:
Essential:
A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS)
Strong teaching experience within a relevant Business, or vocational subject
Experience of coordinating or leading learning programmes
Proven ability to improve learner outcomes and quality of provision
Knowledge of Ofsted frameworks and quality assurance processes
Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills
Desirable:
Experience of line managing staff or leading teams
Assessor/Internal Verifier qualifications
Experience working with employers and industry partners
Management qualification (or willingness to work towards)
