Job Title: Assistant Mechanical Engineer / Plumbing Improver (Temp to Perm)

Location: Richmond (Primary Site) – with occasional travel to Weybridge
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
Contract: Temporary to Permanent

initially paid through Umbrella on £18 - 19 per hour 

About the Role

We are recruiting for an Assistant Mechanical Engineer / Plumbing Improver to join a growing team on a newly mobilised site in Richmond. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with hands-on experience in plant rooms, hard services FM, or a commercial maintenance environment who is looking to develop their skills and build a long-term career.

This is a temp-to-perm position with a strong likelihood of becoming permanent, offering structured training, mentoring, and upskilling alongside experienced engineers.

You will be primarily based in Richmond, with occasional travel to a nearby site in Weybridge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support qualified engineers with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works
  • Assist with maintenance and basic repairs on mechanical and plumbing systems
  • Work within plant rooms and on-site building services equipment
  • Help ensure all tasks are completed in line with SFG-20 standards and SLAs
  • Carry out basic fault finding and report issues to senior engineers
  • Assist with L8 tasks and general compliance works (training provided where needed)
  • Complete job reports accurately using CAFM systems or paperwork
  • Support with minor installations and general maintenance tasks
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and safe working environments
  • Build positive working relationships with colleagues and clients
  • Follow all company health & safety policies and procedures

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience working in a plant room, building services, or hard FM environment
  • Basic understanding of mechanical or plumbing systems
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from senior engineers
  • Good communication skills
  • Basic IT skills (for reports and job logging systems)

Desirable:

  • Full UK driving licence (preferred but not essential)
  • Any plumbing or mechanical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds – even part-completed)
  • Experience working on commercial sites (e.g., offices, healthcare, etc.)
  • Knowledge of PPMs or compliance tasks
  • Previous experience assisting engineers or working as an improver

Training & Development

  • Ongoing training and mentoring from experienced engineers
  • Exposure to a wide range of mechanical and plumbing systems
