Assistant Accountant, Chelmsford
£32,000 - £38,000 per annum + benefits
Monday to Friday 9am-5pm 1 hour lunch, free parking
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our client based in Chelmsford. We are looking for a confident, organised, and technically strong individual who can take ownership of key finance processes while supporting 2 Accounts Assistants. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of financial tasks, ensuring accuracy and compliance across multiple entities.

Prepare & submit quarterly VAT returns across multiple entities.
Manage intercompany invoicing, recharges & reconciliations.
Reconcile intercompany balances & resolve discrepancies.
Conduct daily & monthly bank reconciliations, including multi-currency accounts.
Post accruals, prepayments & month-end journals.
Support month-end close & management accounts preparation.
Process & review sales & purchase invoices.
Manage supplier payment runs & reconcile supplier statements.
Maintain accurate sales, purchase & nominal ledgers.
Review aged debtors & creditors & resolve outstanding balances.
Clear historic balances, unreconciled items & process authorised write-offs.
Reconcile balance sheet control accounts & maintain supporting schedules.
Assist with audit requirements & statutory compliance.
Act as a senior point of contact for finance queries within the team.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years' experience within a finance function in a similar role
Experience with VAT returns, intercompany accounting, accruals, prepayments & maintaining accurate ledgers
Proficient in bank reconciliation & balance sheet reconciliation.
A good working knowledge of MS Excel & Sage
Experience using an ERP system
AAT qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience.
ACCA/CIMA studies would be advantageous but not essential.
