My client is seeking a part time 3 day a week Credit Controller for a 6 month FTC to manage day-to-day credit control activities within our legal services business. This role is crucial for ensuring the timely collection of outstanding client fees and maintaining healthy cash flow.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Credit Control Activities:
Manage an allocated portfolio of client accounts to ensure timely payment collection.
Monitor aged debt reports daily and prioritise collection activities.
Chase outstanding invoices through calls, emails, and written correspondence.
Maintain regular contact with clients to ensure payments are received as per agreed terms.
Process and allocate incoming payments accurately and promptly.
Set up and maintain payment plans where appropriate.
Update client records and maintain detailed communication logs within the practice management system.
Query Resolution and Client Communication:
Respond promptly to client queries regarding invoices and statements.
Liaise with fee earners and billing teams to resolve disputes or discrepancies.
Investigate and address client concerns regarding billing matters professionally.
Provide copies of invoices, statements, and other documentation as requested by clients.
Handle complaints sensitively and escalate complex issues to the Senior Credit Controller.
Reporting and Administration:
Prepare regular reports on collection activity and portfolio performance.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records within the practice management system.
Assist with month-end procedures including debt provisioning and reporting requirements.
Ensure all credit control activities are documented appropriately for audit purposes.
Collaboration with Revenue Controller:
Work closely with the Revenue Controller to align billing and collection activities.
Provide feedback on billing issues that impact collection.
Collaborate on strategies to reduce lock-up and improve working capital.
Participate in revenue cycle meetings and planning discussions.
Compliance and Process Adherence:
Follow firm credit control procedures and policies consistently.
Ensure compliance with data protection regulations when handling client information.
Adhere to the firm's credit terms and escalation procedures.
Identify and report any potential bad debt risks.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Previous credit control experience, ideally in a professional service or B2B environment..
Strong understanding of credit control principles and debt-recovery procedures.
Ability to learn and navigate practice management systems and CRM tools.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Professional, courteous, and able to maintain firm collection standards while building rapport.
