Since the 1960s, inclusive hiring has been recognised as a driver of stronger, more resilient organisations. But today, we face a troubling reality: discrimination and hate crimes are on the rise across the UK, and the narrative around inclusion is increasingly being misused to divide rather than unite.

In this climate, it’s more important than ever to reaffirm our commitment to equity. As Lee Barron MP, Member of Parliament for Corby and East Northamptonshire, puts it, we must use this moment to “speak up for each other.” That means ensuring every individual—regardless of background, faith, or ethnicity—has a fair chance to succeed.

Employers who recognise and respect the complexity of their workforce—its cultures, beliefs, and lived experiences—are better equipped to create inclusive environments where everyone can thrive. Fair hiring practices that acknowledge and accommodate diversity help dismantle bias, foster belonging, and unlock innovation.

For example, with 61% of the UK’s Muslim population living in cities and holding a median age of just 29, there is a significant, skilled, and accessible talent pool that remains underutilised. Recognising and engaging with such communities isn’t just socially responsible—it’s economically strategic.

This downloadable resource brings together expert insights, lived experiences, and policy recommendations to help organisations and government bodies.
