The course offers a thorough understanding of how Power BI works. It is designed for those beginning their Power BI journey and aims to build confidence and competence when working with the tool.

New users of Power BI.


The course duration is 1 to 2 days.

The 1 day course covers:

  • Power BI basics

  • Overview of Power BI

  • Power BI screen, toolbars and menus

  • Creating reports in Power BI Desktop

  • Introduction to reports, tables and metrics

  • Styles, formatting and conditional formatting

  • Aggregation methods

  • Tables and cards

  • Filtering data

  • Using slicers

  • Visual filters and page filters

  • Drill‑through filter

  • Quick measures

  • Graphs and visualisations (column, stacked, 100% charts; trend analysis; pie, donut, area, ribbon charts; scatter and bubble plots; maps).

  • Creating interactive dashboards

  • Publishing dashboards

  • Getting live data from the web

  • Producing visualisations using live data

  • Demonstration of intermediate‑level features

The 2 day course covers:

Day 1:

  • Importing data into Power BI

  • Viewing data in Power BI

  • Understanding fact and dimension tables

  • Introduction to visuals

  • Cross‑filtering

  • Data cleaning using Power Query

  • Appending and merging tables

  • Formatting data

  • Creating custom columns in Power Query

  • Unpivoting tables

Day 2:

  • Filtering data

  • Creating measures and calculated columns for visualisations

  • Trend lines

  • Slicers

  • Conditional formatting

  • Attribute groups

  • Drill‑through

  • Creating and using bookmarks

  • Bringing everything together in a final dashboard project
