In 2024, the Better Hiring Institute published a landmark report highlighting the structural and cultural barriers women face in the hiring process and throughout their careers. One year on, this follow-up report—developed in collaboration with Reed Screening and supported by leading voices in Parliament and industry—assesses the impact of those recommendations and identifies where further action is urgently needed.
The report reveals encouraging signs: flexible working opportunities have increased, salary transparency is gaining traction, and more employers are redesigning job adverts to be inclusive. However, challenges persist. Non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) continue to silence victims of workplace misconduct, and women—particularly those with caregiving responsibilities or from racially minoritised backgrounds—remain underrepresented in leadership roles.
This comprehensive review outlines actionable steps for employers, from improving job design and workplace culture to implementing effective policies on harassment, health, and pay equity. It also explores the potential of the Employment Rights Bill to drive systemic change, including enhanced protections against discrimination and expanded flexible working rights.
By downloading this report, employers gain access to evidence-based recommendations and real-world examples to help them build fairer, safer, and more equitable workplaces. Together, we can accelerate progress and ensure that gender parity in hiring becomes a reality—not in 131 years, but within our lifetime.
