The programme duration is up to 36 months and is completely funded by the apprenticeship levy. Either way, they will have the opportunity to network and learn from their peers while being guided through their programme by one of our expert HR advisers who will help them apply what they learn to their role. Successful apprentices will also have the option to complete their CIPD Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management, leading to CIPD Chartered Membership.

About the new programme

Individuals completing the Senior People Professional Apprenticeship will drive organisational performance and effectiveness. They are the in-house experts in people, work and change and champion the people agenda to create working environments and cultures that help get the best out of people.

At this level, Senior People Professionals are ambassadors for their organisations and will typically have wide-ranging networks and need to interact with many different internal and external senior stakeholders. They will lead the design, implementation and evaluation of people policies and practices. Individuals will be responsible for leading people projects and/or playing a key role in larger organisation-wide programmes.

Keeping up to date with key current and future trends and developments in the profession along with relevant legislation and regulation is critical to this occupation. Senior People Professionals are responsible for seeking out, evaluating and utilising technology to deliver the people strategy and have some budget responsibility.

There are three pathways that apprentices may choose from: Human Resources, Organisational Development and Learning and Development.

The duration is approximately 33-36 months.

Entry Requirements
A level 5 qualification in HR or related qualification, along with relevant work experience at a managerial level.

Apprentices without English or Maths at Level 2 must achieve this before taking the End Point Assessment.

On-programme Learning
Although not a mandatory requirement of the apprenticeship standard, apprentices will have the opportunity to complete either the CIPD Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management or the CIPD Advanced Diploma in Strategic Learning and Development, depending on the chosen path.

Throughout the programme, apprentices will be supported, coached and guided by an industry expert adviser and have access to our substantive Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Progress will be tracked through our ePortfolio system, OneFile. Apprentices will follow an individual learning plan and complete tasks and activities to support each of the components and requirements of the Senior People Professional Apprenticeship.

Throughout the programme apprentices will be required to compile a portfolio of evidence containing 15 discrete pieces of evidence related to the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours, which is submitted at End Point Assessment.

End Point Assessment
An End Point Assessment takes place once the apprentice has completed all the on-programme requirements of the apprenticeship and is an assessment of the Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours. The End Point Assessment is carried out by an independent End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO), chosen by the employer.

This End Point Assessment will include:

  • Professional Discussion Underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence. The Professional Discussion gives the apprentice the opportunity to make detailed and proactive contributions to confirm their competency and is mapped across the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours together with the chosen pathway that the apprentice has taken. The Professional Discussion will last for approximately 120 minutes and will be underpinned by a portfolio of evidence compiled throughout the programme.

  • Project Proposal, Presentation and Questioning. Apprentices will be required to produce a Project Proposal which involves the completion of a relevant and defined piece of work that has a real business benefit. The proposed project does not need to be fully implemented during the EPA period, but it must be a comprehensive proposal that will enable full implementation at an appropriate time for the organisation. The Project Proposal is approximately 7,000 words and will take around 12 weeks. Apprentices will prepare and deliver a presentation that, along with the proposal, appropriately covers the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours and will be followed by questioning from the EPAO.
