Our advisers are very special individuals with a wealth of industry experience and a genuine interest in the development of others. Each one of them works hard to ensure their CIPD candidate is supported throughout every step of their qualification. Our advisers really do ensure our business retains that personal touch, something we know our candidates greatly value, so we would like to publicly recognise their contribution to your CIPD success!

What makes Reed Learning stand out from the crowd is our personal approach to learning and one adviser who epitomises this most is our senior consultant Dee Gemmell!

Here we ask Reed Learning’s senior consultant Dee Gemmell for her advice to help you gain that all important CIPD qualification along with what she loves most about her job.

Dee’s top tips for CIPD success – If life throws you a Curveball then tell us!

“We all know that life can sometimes get in the way of studying but please don’t keep quiet if you face an unexpected challenge. Pick up the phone or send an email to your adviser if you have any issues. Keeping a problem to yourself will not help you get qualified.”

“Study little and often, chip away at your assignments a bit at a time, trying to work on an assignment for four hours can be daunting, and so start with 30 minutes and if all is going well, have a treat and then do a bit more!! If you get stuck, call your adviser.”

Having been with the business for over 10 years, Dee has supported countless candidates to achieve qualification success and receives glowing feedback on the independent review site Coursecheck. Dee’s wealth of knowledge means she can tailor her one-to-one sessions to meet candidates’ needs, particularly those who are lacking experience or need a little extra support when returning to studying after a long break.

Here’s what our candidates say about Dee …

“Dee was an amazing trainer and always on hand to give constructive criticism and advice. Wouldn’t have done it without her and look forward to doing Level 5 with her.” James Pitcher, Foundation Candidate

“My course adviser Dee Gemmell was excellent, always available for any questions and provided quick turnaround on my submissions with very clear, constructive feedback.” Steven McCormick, Advanced Candidate

“I thought Dee was very good. She was very knowledgeable on the subject.” Emma Gould, Associate Candidate

With a professional background in HR and L&D, Dee is able to work with candidates from both disciplines and at all levels. She sees HR and L&D as being two sides of the same coin and it is beneficial to have experience in both areas.

Dee’s career began at the multinational 3M where she was initially in an HR role before deciding to become a trainer to overcome shyness and a fear of public speaking. The move certainly worked as Dee now describes herself as being able to speak for England! Since then, she has held senior HR and L&D roles in a variety of sectors including pharmaceutical, insurance and finance, as well as working as an independent HR consultant and tutoring on CIPD programmes. Her special interests are in employee engagement, strategy and how HR can add value to the business.

An adviser, assessor and internal quality assessor, Dee has held a number of positions at Reed Learning and as a senior consultant now helps lead the advisory delivery team, playing an integral role in the development of the Apprenticeship business – all of which she combines with supporting candidates.

A recent move to picturesque Ashbourne in the Peak District means she is able to enjoy a more laid back lifestyle. Dee loves the freedom of working from her home office and the fact that technology enables her to do her job effectively. She also enjoys building a relationship with her candidates and seeing their personal development as they progress through their qualification.
