We believe that learning never stops—especially for experienced consultants. That’s why we launched the Best Practice Programme (BPP): a learning initiative designed to support, develop, and empower our consultants across the Reed Recruitment network.
Post 2020, the world of work changed significantly. New tools emerged, business operations, and working patterns shifted. We saw an opportunity—not just to adapt, but to lead. The Best Practice Programme (BPP) was created from extensive business partnering with senior managers and operations teams, identifying what our best people were doing and building a programme around those skills and behaviours.
This isn’t a performance tool. It’s a learning programme. The aim? To ensure a consistent use of best practice tools and techniques across the business, while giving consultants the space to grow.
What is the BBP?
The Best Practice Programme is designed to:
Observe best practice in action
Deliver developmental, personalised feedback
Create bespoke learning plans tailored to each consultant
It’s a structured, app-based programme that includes six core activities. What makes it special is that the app was built for Reed by Reed and all the content has been created by our own L&D team in collaboration with Operations. Consultants are observed in real scenarios—sales calls, candidate registrations, and client meetings.
Led by Managers, Powered by L&D
One of our core values at Reed is “We work together” and the Best Practice Programme is a fantastic example of just that. Regional Managers play a central role in working with L&D and the consultant. They conduct the observations, deliver the feedback, and help embed learning in the flow of work. In doing so, they act as an extension of the L&D team—bringing development closer to the desk.
The programme also enables us to spot trends across offices. For example, if a region is struggling with business development planning, we can deliver targeted support. This insight-led approach ensures learning is always relevant and impactful.

“I think what good looks like is that between the first observation and the re-observation, we see growth—whether it be confidence, areas of improvement, or more engagement with tools like Reed AI. It’s not about ticking boxes; it’s about real development.”

The Impact So Far
Since launching in September, the BPP has been embraced across the business. Consultants value the face-to-face learning and the chance to grow as a team. And the results speak for themselves. Teams are reporting better client meetings, more confident conversations, and stronger collaboration.
It’s a culture shift—one that puts learning at the heart of performance.
